How to Update a Minecraft Bedrock Server

Bedrock players' games update automatically, so keep your server on the latest version.

Updated 1 min read

Bedrock games update themselves, and a player can only join a server on the same version. When Mojang releases an update, players see "Outdated server" until you update.

Update the server

  1. Go to Backups and create a backup.
  2. Go to Package Manager, find Bedrock in the installed list, and pick the newest version.
  3. Confirm and restart the server from Console.

Your world, settings, allowlist and permissions are kept.

After updating

  • Check Console for errors as it starts.
  • Behaviour and resource packs may need updating for the new version.
  • If players still see "Outdated client", their game hasn't updated yet. Updating it from their app store fixes it.

Note

Bedrock worlds can't go back to an older version safely. Keep the backup until you're happy with the update.
