How to Set Up Simple Voice Chat on a Minecraft Server

Add proximity voice chat to your server with Simple Voice Chat on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Paper.

Updated 1 min read

Simple Voice Chat adds proximity voice: players hear each other more quietly the further apart they are. It works on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Paper.

Install it on the server

  1. Open Package Manager, click Browse packages, search for Simple Voice Chat, and install the build for your server software.
  2. Package changes are queued and applied the next time the server starts, so restart it from Console when you're done.
  3. Stop the server once it has started, so you can set the port.

Set the port

Voice chat uses UDP. It can share your server's port, because Minecraft itself uses TCP.

  1. In Files, open config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties (on Paper: plugins/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties).
  2. Set port to your server's port (shown on the Network page).
  3. Save and start the server.

If you'd rather use a separate port, add one on Network with Add Allocation and use that instead.

Players' side

Every player installs Simple Voice Chat in their launcher, for the same loader and Minecraft version as the server. On Paper servers, players use the Fabric or Forge client mod. Press V in game to open the voice settings.

If players see "Voice chat not connected", see How to Fix Voice Chat Not Connected.
