How to Fix "Voice Chat Not Connected" on a Minecraft Server

Simple Voice Chat installed but players can't connect? Check the port, versions and firewall.

Updated 1 min read

"Voice chat not connected" means the player's game can't reach the server's voice port.

1. Check the port

  1. Stop the server in Console.
  2. In Files, open config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties (on Paper: plugins/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties).
  3. Make sure port is your server's port (from the Network page), or a port you added there with Add Allocation. The default 24454 won't work unless you've added that port.
  4. Make sure bind_address is blank.
  5. Save and start the server.

2. Check versions match

The player's Simple Voice Chat must be the same version family as the server's, for the same Minecraft version. Update both from Package Manager and the player's launcher.

3. Check the player's side

  • Their firewall or antivirus may block UDP. Try another network (a phone hotspot) to test.
  • Some school, work and public networks block UDP entirely.
  • In game, press V and check the voice chat isn't disabled.

4. Read the log

When the server starts, Console prints the port voice chat is listening on. If it shows an error binding the port, the port in the config isn't one your server has.
