How to Restore and Download Backups on the Games Panel
Learn how to easily restore and download backups for your game servers using Beacon Hosting's Games Panel.
Beacon stores backups per server. You can restore a backup onto the server or download a copy to keep locally.
Open your server from Server Selection, then click Backups in the sidebar.
Wait until a backup shows a file size. If it still says Creating backup... or Processing..., it is not ready.
Warning
Restoring a backup replaces files from that backup on the server. Create a new backup first if you may need the current world or configuration.
How to Restore a Minecraft Server Backup
- Stop the server from Console. Restoring while the server is running can leave files in an inconsistent state.
- Open Backups.
- Find the backup you want to restore using its name and date.
- Open the ⋯ menu on the backup card.
- Click Restore.
- Wait for the restore process to finish.
- Start the server and check that the world and files are correct.
The server status will indicate that the restore is in progress. Stay on Console and wait for it to complete before starting the server.
Restoring a backup does not delete the backup. The same backup can be restored again later.
How to Download a Minecraft Server Backup
- Open Backups.
- Find a completed backup.
- Open the ⋯ menu on the backup card.
- Click Download.
- Save the backup archive somewhere safe.
Depending on your browser, the download may begin automatically or open a download link first.
Info
Backup downloads are not available on free trial servers. Upgrade the service if you need to download a backup locally. Backup creation and restoration may still be available depending on the server's backup allowance.
What If Restore or Download Is Missing?
I cannot see Restore or Download
If you are a Subuser, the server owner needs to grant you the appropriate backup permissions.
No backups are listed
There may not be any backups yet. Create one using the backup option on the Backups page.
If you cannot create backups, your service may have no backup slots available. Check your plan or upgrade if necessary.
Can a protected or locked backup be restored?
Yes. Locking a backup prevents it from being deleted; it does not prevent the backup from being restored or downloaded.
What to Do After Restoring a Backup
After the restore finishes:
- Start the server.
- Join the Minecraft server.
- Check that the correct world loaded.
- Verify important plugins, mods, configurations, and server settings.
- Check the console for startup errors.
If you restored the wrong backup, stop the server again and restore the correct backup.
