How to Install a Custom Modpack on a Minecraft Server
Put a modpack that isn't on CurseForge or Modrinth on your server by uploading it.
Modpacks published on CurseForge or Modrinth install from Package Manager in a few clicks. For a private or self-made pack, set the server up by hand.
1. Install the loader
Find out which loader and version the pack uses (for example NeoForge 21.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1). In Package Manager, install that loader at that version. Restart once and stop again, so it creates its folders.
2. Upload the mods and configs
- In Console, make sure the server is stopped.
- In Files, upload the pack's
modsfolder, and itsconfigfolder (pluskubejsordefaultconfigsif it has them). - To upload faster, zip them on your computer, upload the
.zip, and use Extract here.
Warning
Leave out client-only mods: minimaps, shaders, HUD and sound mods. They crash servers. A pack's server files usually list which mods to remove.
3. Start it
Click Start and watch Console. If it stops with an error naming a mod, that mod is usually client-only or missing a dependency.
Prefer published packs
If you can publish your pack on Modrinth or CurseForge (even unlisted), Package Manager can install and update it for you, and your players can install it in one click.
