How to Update Individual Mods on a Minecraft Server
Update one mod at a time from the Package Manager, without updating the whole modpack.
Updated 1 min read
Mods installed with Package Manager
- Go to Backups and create a backup.
- Open Package Manager and find the mod in the installed list.
- Pick a newer version. Only versions built for your loader and Minecraft version are offered.
- If the new version needs other mods, the panel installs them too.
- Package changes are queued and applied the next time the server starts, so restart it from Console when you're done.
Mods added by hand
- Stop the server in Console.
- In Files, delete the old
.jarfrommodsand upload the new one. - Start the server.
Before you update
- Everyone needs the same version. Players must update the mod in their launcher too, or they'll see a mismatch when joining.
- Read the changelog. Some updates change world data or configs, and can't be undone without a backup.
- Don't update a modpack's mods one by one unless you have a reason; the pack's author tested them together. Update the whole modpack instead.
