How to Install Farsight on a Minecraft Forge or NeoForge Server

Let players see further than the server's view distance with Farsight on Forge or NeoForge.

Farsight lets players keep chunks loaded beyond the server's view distance on their own side, so distant terrain stays visible.

Install it

Farsight is mainly a client mod.

  1. Players: install the Forge or NeoForge build of Farsight in their launcher, for the server's Minecraft version.
  2. Server (optional): install it from Package Manager (Browse packages, search Farsight, Install) if your version needs it on both sides. Package changes are queued and applied the next time the server starts, so restart it from Console when you're done.

Make sure you pick the build for your loader: Forge and NeoForge builds aren't interchangeable on newer versions.

The server's view distance

The server's view-distance in server.properties still decides how far it loads and sends chunks. Raise it a step at a time; it costs memory and CPU.
