How to Find the World Seed on a Minecraft Server
Find the seed your Minecraft world was generated from.
Updated 1 min read
From Console
- Open your server and go to Console.
- Start the server if it's offline.
- Type
seedand press Enter.
The server prints Seed: [...].
In game
Operators can run /seed in chat, then click the number to copy it.
From the world files
If the server won't start, read the seed from level.dat:
- Open Files and go into your world folder (usually
world). - Click
level.dat. It opens in the NBT editor. - Use Search NBT tags to find
seed. On 1.16 and newer it's underWorldGenSettings; on older versions it'sRandomSeed.
Note
level-seed in server.properties only shows the seed you asked for before the world was made. If it was blank, the world used a random seed, and seed is the way to see it.More in Minecraft
