How to Find Minecraft Mods

Where to find safe Minecraft mods, and how to install them on your Beacon server.

Updated 1 min read

Where to look

Get mods from Modrinth and CurseForge. Both check uploads, show which Minecraft version and loader each file is for, and list what each mod depends on.

Warning

Avoid mod sites that re-host files or wrap them in download pages full of ads. They're a common way to spread malware.

Picking the right file

Each mod file is made for:

  • one loader: Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt;
  • one Minecraft version (or a small range).

It must match your server and your game. Check whether the mod is client, server or both: a minimap only goes in your game, a world generation mod goes on both.

Search from the panel

Package Manager searches Modrinth and CurseForge for you, and only shows mods that match your server's loader and Minecraft version.

  1. Open your server and go to Package Manager.
  2. Click Browse packages and search, or browse by Categories.
  3. Click Install. Mods it depends on are installed too.
  4. Package changes are queued and applied the next time the server starts, so restart it from Console when you're done.

Turn off the version filter to see mods for every version, but only install ones that match.
