When Minecraft crashes on your computer, its logs explain why. In the official Minecraft Launcher, they're in your .minecraft folder.
Open the folder
| System | Where |
|---|---|
| Windows | Press Win + R, type %appdata%\.minecraft, press Enter |
| macOS | In Finder, Go → Go to Folder, enter ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft |
| Linux | ~/.minecraft |
Or in the launcher: Installations, hover the installation, click the folder icon.
The files
logs/latest.log: the most recent session.logs/*.log.gz: older sessions, zipped.crash-reports/: one file per crash, named with the date and time.
Turn on the launcher's log window
In the launcher's Settings, turn on Open output log when Minecraft: Java Edition starts. A window shows the log live as the game runs.
Sharing it
Paste the whole log into mclo.gs and send the link. For a server problem, send the server's log instead: see How to Submit Minecraft Logs.
