How to Enable Flying on a Minecraft Server
Stop your server kicking players for flying, or let players fly in survival.
Updated 1 min read
Minecraft kicks players it thinks are flying in survival: "Flying is not enabled on this server". Elytra, jetpack mods and lag can trigger it.
Stop players being kicked for flying
- Open your server and go to Files.
- Click
server.properties. It opens in the Minecraft Server Properties editor. - Use Search for property name... to find the setting.
- Turn
allow-flighton (true). - Save and restart the server from Console.
This doesn't let players fly by itself. It stops the server kicking them when a mod, plugin or laggy elytra flight makes them fly.
Tip
Turn this on for modpacks. Many mods add jetpacks, rings and other ways to fly.
Let a player fly
- Creative and spectator can always fly:
gamemode creative <player>. - In survival, use a plugin. On Paper, EssentialsX adds
/fly. Install it from Package Manager, restart, and give players theessentials.flypermission (or make them operators).
