How to Turn Off Paper's Exploit Fixes

Paper patches some vanilla bugs players rely on, like TNT duping. Here's how to turn them back on.

Updated 1 min read

Paper fixes some vanilla bugs that technical players use on purpose: duplicating TNT, carpet and rails, breaking bedrock, and others. If your players build farms that need them, you can turn the fixes off.

Warning

These settings are called "unsupported" for a reason. They can be used to grief or duplicate items. Only turn on what your players need.

Turn them off

  1. In Console, click Stop.
  2. In Files, open config/paper-global.yml.
  3. Find unsupported-settings: and change what you need:
unsupported-settings:
  allow-permanent-block-break-exploits: true
  allow-piston-duplication: true
  allow-headless-pistons: true
Setting Re-enables
allow-piston-duplication TNT, carpet and rail duplication
allow-permanent-block-break-exploits Breaking bedrock and end portal frames
allow-headless-pistons Headless pistons
  1. Save and start the server.

Other differences from vanilla

config/paper-world-defaults.yml has more, for example fix-items-merging-through-walls and disable-unloaded-chunk-enderpearl-exploit. Check each one's description in Paper's documentation before changing it.

If you need vanilla behaviour everywhere, run Vanilla or Fabric instead; install them from Package Manager.
