How to Use Your Own Domain for Your Minecraft Server
Let players join with play.yourdomain.com instead of an IP address and port.
You can point a domain you own (for example play.example.com) at your server, so players don't need to remember an IP address and port.
You need a domain from a registrar such as Cloudflare, Namecheap or Porkbun. Beacon doesn't sell domains or give out free subdomains.
1. Add it in the panel
- Open your server and go to Network.
- Under Domain Alias, click Add Domain.
- Enter the address players should use, for example
mc.example.com, and save.
The panel then shows the DNS records to create.
2. Create the DNS records
At your domain provider, open the DNS settings and add the records the panel shows:
| Type | Why |
|---|---|
| A | Points the name at your server's IP address |
| SRV | Tells Minecraft which port to use. Only shown when your server isn't on the default port 25565 |
Copy each value exactly: the host, the target and the port.
Note
On Cloudflare, set the A record to DNS only (grey cloud). Minecraft traffic can't go through Cloudflare's proxy.
3. Wait, then join
DNS changes usually work within minutes, but can take up to a day. Then players add the server with just the domain, no port.
Bedrock players
Bedrock doesn't read SRV records. Bedrock players (including through Geyser) enter the domain and the port.
To remove the domain, open Network and remove the domain alias, then delete the records at your provider.
