How to Add Extra Worlds to a Minecraft Server

Run more than one world on the same server with Multiverse-Core, and let players move between them.

Updated 1 min read

A Minecraft server loads one main world, with its Nether and End. To run more worlds side by side, such as a creative world next to survival, use the Multiverse-Core plugin.

Requirements

Multiverse is a plugin, so your server needs to run Paper (or Folia). If you're on Vanilla, install Paper from Package Manager first. Your existing world carries over.

Install Multiverse-Core

  1. Open your server and go to Package Manager.
  2. Click Browse packages and search for Multiverse-Core.
  3. Click Install and pick the version for your Minecraft version.
  4. Restart the server from Console. Package changes apply on the next start.

Create a new world

Run these in Console (or in game as an operator, with /):

mv create creative normal

This creates a normal world called creative. Use nether or end instead of normal for those types, and add -s <seed> for a specific seed.

Move between worlds

mv tp creative
mv tp world

world is your original world. List every world with mv list.

Add a world you uploaded

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Upload the world folder in Files, next to your main world folder.
  3. Start the server and run mv import <foldername> normal.

Tip

Install Multiverse-Portals too if you want players to walk through portals between worlds instead of using commands.

Note

Every loaded world uses memory. If the server slows down, unload worlds nobody is using with mv unload <name>.
