How to Add and Remove Mods on a Technic Launcher Modpack

Add or remove mods in a Technic Launcher modpack, and keep your Beacon server's mods matching.

Updated 1 min read

You can add mods to a modpack, or remove ones you don't want, in the Technic Launcher.

Change the mods in your launcher

Technic has no built-in mod browser, so you change the files yourself.

  1. Select the modpack, click Modpack Options, then Open next to the install folder.
  2. Open the mods folder.
  3. Add a mod: download the mod's .jar for the pack's Minecraft version and loader, and copy it in.
  4. Remove a mod: delete its .jar from the folder.

Technic may restore the pack's original mods when the modpack updates. Turn off automatic updates in Modpack Options to keep your changes.

Warning

Changing a modpack can break worlds that use the mods you remove. Make a copy of the instance (or a backup) before removing mods from a pack you've been playing.

Make the server match

Anyone joining needs the same mods as the server, except client-only mods (minimaps, shaders, HUDs), which only go on your computer.

To change the server's mods:

  1. Open your server in the panel and go to Backups. Create a backup.
  2. Add a mod: go to Package Manager, click Browse packages, search for the mod, and click Install. Package Manager picks the version for your loader and Minecraft version, and installs anything it depends on.
  3. Remove a mod: go to Package Manager, find it under installed packages, and remove it.
  4. Restart the server from Console. Package changes apply on the next start.

For a mod that isn't on Modrinth or CurseForge, see How to Add Custom Mods.
