**Files** lets you work with your server's files from the browser. For large uploads, SFTP is faster: see [How to Configure an SFTP Client](/knowledgebase/how-to-configure-an-sftp-client-for-minecraft).

## Getting around

Click a folder to open it. Use the path at the top to go back up, or **Search this folder** to find a file by name.

## Upload files

- Drag files onto the list (**Drop files to upload**), or click **Upload**.
- To fetch a file straight from the internet, open the arrow next to **Upload** and choose **Download from a link**. Paste the link and the server downloads it.

## Create files and folders

Click **New file**, or open the arrow next to it and choose **New folder**.

## Edit a file

Click a text file to open it in the editor. Save with **Ctrl/Cmd + S**.

- `server.properties` opens in a form made for it.
- `.dat` files (`level.dat`, player data) open in an NBT editor.

Restart the server after changing configs; most are only read at startup.

## Other actions

Tick files, or use the **Actions** menu on a file, to **rename**, **move**, **copy**, **download**, **compress** them into an archive, **extract** an archive, or **delete** them.

Deleted files go to the trash first, where you can **Restore file to its original location**.

## Locked files

Team members may see files marked **Locked**. The server owner chose these on the **Users** page; they can't be changed by that member.

> [!WARNING]
> Stop the server before replacing world files or large mod folders. Changing them while it runs can corrupt them.
