A network lets players move between several servers without leaving: for example a lobby, a survival server and a minigames server. One server runs a **proxy** that players connect to, and it passes them on to the others.

On Beacon, the proxy is **Velocity**. (BungeeCord and Waterfall aren't available in **Package Manager**; Velocity replaces them and is faster.)

## What you need

- One Beacon server for the **proxy**. It needs little memory.
- One Beacon server for each **backend** (lobby, survival, …), running **Paper**.

## 1. Set up the proxy

1. On the proxy server, open **Package Manager**, search for **Velocity**, and install it. Restart, then stop it once it has started.
2. In **Files**, open `velocity.toml`:
   - set `player-info-forwarding-mode = "modern"`;
   - under `[servers]`, list your backends by name with their addresses, for example `lobby = "<lobby address>"`;
   - set `try = ["lobby"]` so players start in the lobby.
3. Open `forwarding.secret` and copy the secret.

## 2. Set up each backend

1. Stop the backend. In **Files**, open `config/paper-global.yml`.
2. Under `proxies:` → `velocity:`, set `enabled: true`, `online-mode: true` and `secret:` to the secret you copied.
3. In `server.properties`, set `online-mode` to `false`. The proxy now checks logins.
4. Start the backend.

## 3. Connect

Start the proxy. Players join the **proxy's** address (from its **Network** page). They move between servers with `/server <name>`.

> [!WARNING]
> With `online-mode=false`, a backend must only accept players through the proxy. Modern forwarding with the secret ensures that; don't share the secret.
