If your modpack was installed with **Package Manager**, update it there: see [How to Install and Update a Modpack](/knowledgebase/how-to-install-and-update-a-modpack-on-a-minecraft-server). Use this guide for a pack you uploaded yourself.

## Get the new server files

Download the new version's **server pack** from the modpack's page on CurseForge or Modrinth (look for "Server Pack" or "Server Files").

## Update the server

1. In **Console**, click **Stop**.
2. Go to **Backups** and create a backup.
3. In **Files**, delete the old `mods` folder (and `config`, `defaultconfigs` and `kubejs` if the new pack includes them).
4. Upload the new server pack's files. To save time, upload the pack as a `.zip`, then use **Extract here** on it in **Files**.
5. Make sure the **mod loader version** matches what the new pack needs. If it changed, install that loader version from **Package Manager**.
6. Click **Start**.

> [!WARNING]
> Keep your `world` folder, `server.properties`, `ops.json` and `whitelist.json`. Don't overwrite them with the pack's copies.

## If it won't start

Read the error in **Console**. A mod mismatch or a missing dependency means a file was left behind or is missing; compare your `mods` folder with the new pack's.
