**Package Manager** installs modpacks from **CurseForge** and **Modrinth**, with the right mod loader and Java version.

## Install a modpack

1. Go to **Backups** and create a backup if the server already has a world you care about.
2. Go to **Package Manager**, click **Browse packages**, and filter to **modpacks**.
3. Search for the modpack and open it.
4. Pick the **same version** your players will use, and click **Install**. When the modpack publishes one, the panel installs its **server pack**.
5. Confirm. The modpack replaces what's installed and sets up its loader (Forge, NeoForge or Fabric) and Java version.
6. Package changes are queued and applied the next time the server starts, so restart it from **Console** when you're done.

The first start of a large modpack takes several minutes. Watch **Console** until it says `Done`.

> [!TIP]
> Modpacks need memory. If the server crashes with "Out of memory", see [How Much RAM Does a Modded Server Need?](/knowledgebase/modded-minecraft-server-ram).

## Update a modpack

1. Create a backup in **Backups**. Modpack updates can change or remove mods your world uses.
2. Open **Package Manager**, find the modpack in the installed list, and pick the newer version.
3. Confirm and restart.

Your world, player data and configs you changed are kept where possible. Players need to update the modpack in their launcher to the same version.

## Players' side

Everyone joining needs the same modpack and version. See the guide for your launcher, for example [How to Install a Modpack on the CurseForge App](/knowledgebase/how-to-install-a-modpack-on-the-curseforge-launcher).
