"Ticking entity" or "Ticking block entity" crashes mean one entity (a mob, item or machine) causes an error every time the server updates it. The server crashes as soon as that chunk loads, so it can't stay up.

## Find the entity

1. Open **Files**, go to `crash-reports`, and open the newest file.
2. Find `-- Entity being ticked --` (or `-- Block entity being ticked --`).
3. Note the **Entity Type** and **Entity's Exact location** (or **Block location**).

## Option 1: let Forge remove it

Forge and NeoForge can remove the broken entity for you.

1. In **Console**, click **Stop**.
2. In **Files**, open `config/forge-server.toml` (NeoForge: `config/neoforge-server.toml`).
3. Set `removeErroringEntities = true` (and `removeErroringBlockEntities = true` for a block entity).
4. Start the server. Once it's stable, set them back to `false`.

> [!WARNING]
> This deletes the entity, and for block entities, the machine or chest and its contents.

## Option 2: remove it with a world editor

Use **Amulet** on a copy of the world to delete the entity at the coordinates from the crash report. See [How to Use Amulet](/knowledgebase/how-to-use-amulet-on-a-minecraft-server).

## Stop it happening again

The crash report names the mod the entity belongs to. Update that mod in **Package Manager**; many ticking crashes are fixed bugs. Create a backup in **Backups** before any of this.
