When Minecraft crashes on your computer, its logs explain why. In the official Minecraft Launcher, they're in your `.minecraft` folder.

## Open the folder

| System | Where |
|---|---|
| **Windows** | Press **Win + R**, type `%appdata%\.minecraft`, press Enter |
| **macOS** | In Finder, **Go** → **Go to Folder**, enter `~/Library/Application Support/minecraft` |
| **Linux** | `~/.minecraft` |

Or in the launcher: **Installations**, hover the installation, click the **folder** icon.

## The files

- `logs/latest.log`: the most recent session.
- `logs/*.log.gz`: older sessions, zipped.
- `crash-reports/`: one file per crash, named with the date and time.

## Turn on the launcher's log window

In the launcher's **Settings**, turn on **Open output log when Minecraft: Java Edition starts**. A window shows the log live as the game runs.

## Sharing it

Paste the whole log into [mclo.gs](https://mclo.gs) and send the link. For a server problem, send the **server's** log instead: see [How to Submit Minecraft Logs](/knowledgebase/how-to-submit-minecraft-logs).
