# **How to Configure an SFTP Client and Manage Server Files on a Minecraft Bedrock Server**

Using an SFTP client gives you full control over your Minecraft Bedrock server files. This guide shows you how to configure an SFTP connection and manage your files securely and efficiently on Beacon Hosting.

---

## **Step 1: Get Your SFTP Credentials**

1. Log in at [www.beaconhosting.org/auth/login](https://www.beaconhosting.org/auth/login)
2. Open **Your Servers** and select your Minecraft Bedrock server
3. Go to **Settings** and open the **SFTP Access** card

You’ll see:

- **Server Address** — full address in the form `sftp://host:port`
- **Username** — your account email and server ID, shown as `email@example.com:server-id`
- **Password** — a dedicated **SFTP token**, not your panel login password

If you do not have a token yet, click **Generate SFTP token** on that page. Copy it immediately — it is only shown once. If you lose it, click **Roll new token** to create a new one.

> **[INFO]** SFTP is not available on free trial servers. Use **Files** in the browser during a trial instead.

---

## **Step 2: Install and Configure an SFTP Client**

You’ll need a reliable SFTP client. Here are some recommended options:

- [FileZilla](https://filezilla-project.org/)
- [WinSCP](https://winscp.net/)
- [Cyberduck](https://cyberduck.io/) (macOS-friendly)

Once installed:

1. Create a new site or session.
2. Set the protocol to **SFTP** (not FTP).
3. Enter the **host** and **port** from **Server Address** (commonly `2022`, but use the value shown for your server).
4. Enter the **Username** and your **SFTP token** as the password.
5. Save and connect.

You can also use an SSH public key from **Account → SSH Keys** if password sign-in is disabled on your host.

> **[INFO]** Always use SFTP to ensure your connection is encrypted and secure.

---

## **Step 3: Manage Server Files**

After connecting, you can upload, download, and edit files on your server. You can also manage files in the panel under **Files** without SFTP.

Common Bedrock paths include:

- `worlds/` — world saves
- `server.properties` — server settings
- `permissions.json` — operator and permission levels

> **[WARNING]** Create a backup from **Backups** in the panel before changing critical files like `permissions.json`, `server.properties`, or world saves. Some config changes require a restart from **Console**.
