A world border stops players going past a set distance. It keeps the world small, which saves disk space and makes pre-generating it practical.

## Set the border

Run these in **Console** (or in game with `/`, as an operator):

```
worldborder center 0 0
worldborder set 10000
```

- `center` sets the middle of the border. Use your spawn coordinates if they aren't near 0, 0.
- `set` is the **width** in blocks. `10000` means 5,000 blocks in each direction from the centre.

Check it with:

```
worldborder get
```

## Grow or shrink it gradually

Add a time in seconds to move the border slowly:

```
worldborder set 20000 3600
```

This grows the border to 20,000 blocks over an hour.

## Other settings

| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| `worldborder warning distance 20` | Warn players 20 blocks before the edge |
| `worldborder damage amount 0.2` | Damage per block past the buffer |
| `worldborder damage buffer 5` | Blocks past the edge before damage starts |

## The Nether and the End

The border applies per dimension, and the Nether is scaled 1:8. On Paper you can set a separate border in each dimension by running the command while standing in it. For more control (round borders, a border per world) use a plugin such as **Chunky Border**, from **Package Manager**.

> [!TIP]
> After setting a border, pre-generate the world inside it. See [How to Pre-Generate a World](/knowledgebase/how-to-pre-generate-a-world-on-a-minecraft-fabric-server).
