How to Grant OP Permissions on a Minecraft Server

Granting operator (OP) permissions on your Minecraft server allows trusted players to access administrative commands and manage the server effectively. This guide will walk you through assigning OP status in the Beacon Hosting panel.

Open your server

Log in and open Your Servers, then select your Minecraft server.

The server must be online for console commands and the Players OP button to work.

Option 1: Players page (easiest)

If you see Players in the server sidebar, open it.

1. Find the player in the live Players list.
2. Click OP. The panel sends op <username> for you.
3. They appear on the OP list. Use DEOP there (or on the live list) to remove operator status.

The live list only shows players who are currently online. To OP someone who is offline, use Console instead.

Option 2: Console command

1. Open Console.
2. In the command bar (“Send a command to the server…”), enter:

op <playername>

Replace <playername> with their exact Minecraft username. To remove OP, use:

deop <playername>

This takes effect immediately. You do not need to restart.

[WARNING] Only grant OP to trusted players. Operators can run administrative commands on the server.

Option 3: Edit ops.json (advanced)

You can also edit ops.json in Files. Open the file in the panel editor, add the player’s UUID and name, then save. You do not need to download the file, edit it on your computer, and upload it again.

Restart the server from Console after saving ops.json so the server reloads the list.

[INFO] Editing ops.json is recommended only if you are comfortable with JSON and server files.
