A sub-user (team member) can help run one server you own. They sign in with their own Beacon account. They do not get your password, billing, or your other servers.
Warning
Only grant what they need. Administrator can restore backups, edit files, and manage other users on that server.
Add a team member
- Sign in and open Servers.
- Select the server they should access.
- In the sidebar, open Users.
- Click Add Team Member.
- Enter their User Email.
- Choose permissions:
- Use a preset such as Viewer, Console Access, File Manager, Developer, or Administrator, or
- Tick individual permissions (console, files, backups, and so on).
- You must select at least one permission.
- Click Invite User.
They appear under Team Members on that page. You can edit permissions or remove them later from the same list.
What they receive
Beacon emails them that they were added to the server.
- If they already have a Beacon account, they sign in as usual and the server shows up in their list.
- If they do not have an account yet, Beacon creates one and emails a welcome message with a temporary password. They should sign in at Login and change that password on Account.
Permission tips
| Preset | Typical use | | --- | --- | | Viewer | Look at console, files, and backups without changing anything | | Console Access | Start, stop, restart, and send console commands | | File Manager | Edit files and use SFTP | | Developer | Console plus files, SFTP, startup, and package catalog | | Administrator | Almost everything on that server |
You cannot give a permission you do not have yourself. The server owner cannot be added as a sub-user.
Troubleshooting
“This user is already a subuser”
They already have access. Edit their permissions from Users instead of inviting again.
“The user is the owner”
That email is the account that owns the server. They already have full access.
Add Team Member is missing or disabled
You need permission to create users on this server. The owner can grant Users → Add new subusers.
They cannot see the server after invite
Confirm the email is spelled correctly, they signed in with that address, and they opened Servers (not Billing).
