How to Change the View Distance on a Minecraft Server
The view distance setting on your Minecraft server determines how many chunks around each player are loaded and visible. Adjusting this setting can improve server performance or enhance gameplay visuals depending on your needs. At Beacon Hosting, changing the view distance is straightforward through the server panel.
Steps to Change View Distance:
-
Log in at www.beaconhosting.org/auth/login.
/billing/storeis the store, not the server panel. -
Open Your Servers and select the Minecraft server you want to configure.
-
In the server sidebar, go to Files and open
server.properties. The Visual Editor opens by default. There is no separate view-distance control under Settings. -
Expand Commonly used or search for
view-distance. The panel describes this as how many chunks are sent to each player. -
Set the numeric value you want. Lower values reduce server load; higher values increase the visible area for players.
-
Save the file, then restart the server from Console.
[WARNING] Setting view distance too high can hurt performance, especially on lower-tier plans. Adjust it based on your server resources and player count.
